The other day my daughter came up to me with a sad face because her bird died. I have seen her with this emotion before and it only comes when she deals with deep loss; like, the time when her mother passed away due to cancer.
Memories and reminders are good in developing understanding. My family and I have come to realize that death is a part of life. That God is good. And that love carries on. We have the ability to look at each other with empathy and understanding when faced with sorrow, even, at the loss of my daughter's precious bird.
