God Wants the Best of Our Gifts

"Time passed.  Cain brought an offering to God from the produce of his farm.  Abel also brought an offering, but from the firstborn animals of his herd, choice cuts of meat.  God liked Abel and his offering, but Cain and his offering didn't get his approval.  Cain lost his temper and went into sulk" (Genesis 4:3-5 MSG).

Why was God displeased with Cain's sacrifice?  Was it because Cain didn't sacrifice animals?  He could have easily traded his produce for one of Abel's quality animals.  Yet, the text doesn't specify that animals were the only sacifice God required at this time.  So, his land produce may not have been the issue.  A likely reason God wasn't happy with Cain's offering was because Cain didn't offer the best of his wealth and prosperity?  Perhaps he offered the second-rate produce to God.

This text, as well as so many others, is dealing with our attitude toward God.  Was Abel "more" perfect than Cain?  No.  But it seems that Abel's worship to God was accepted because he used the best of what he had to offer; thereby, honoring God for who He truly is - the provider of all blessings.

If you want to know what type of parent a child has just go to the mall on the weekend. I am saddened that parents let their young girls and boys be "watched" by no one.

In the minutes we were there we saw two girls having a slap fight in the street. We saw boys dancing for the girls. We saw young kids behaving like they were married and in the bedroom. We saw girls wearing clothes that prostitutes would wear. And we saw a lot of kids just waiting to be picked up by the parents who used the mall as a baby sitter.

Does your town or city have this problem? It probably does. Mine did even when I was a young kid.

Check scripture about the importance of teaching godliness to the young and helping others (especially parents) be humble in everything before the Lord.

The Thief

Today, my family were victims of an attempted scam.

I put an ad in a local sales paper.  From that, these people, called my phone number using a relay service that is normally used for the deaf.  (The bank said this is a common technique.)  This person promised payment in a money order.  They said that they would need to use a driving service that would pick up the purchase from me.   Yet, they also sent more money than needed.  Their reasoning was so that "the driver service" could also pick up other purchases.  Anyway, the bank caught the fake money gram and informed me of the fraud.  Fortunately, there is no harm to my family and I thank God for protecting us.

Theives come in all shapes and sizes.  Yet, they are cold and calculated - selfish to the core.  It is no wonder Jesus said, "The thief comes to kill and steal and destroy.  I (Jesus) came that they may have life and have it abundantly" (John 10:10  ;cf. John 12:5-8, Ephesians 4:28, 1 Peter 4:15).

Christians must be wary of the thief because they are just like their master - Satan.  They wish to destroy.

The biblical story of the world-wide flood crosses many ancient cultures in this world.  It was a time of great evil against God when people did what was right in their own eyes (Genesis 6: 5-6).  Yet, everyday, people need to be aware of a "flood" that may end their time - death itself.

When people die then, according to Scripture, their eternal fate is sealed.  How important is it, then, for people to choose God now instead wait when it is too late?  Teach yourself and others to be humble before God.

Tolerance

"There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.  And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.  And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear, but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked" (Isaiah 11:1-4).

I like it when people argue, "Doesn't the Bible say not to judge?"  Of course what they usually mean is - let me do what I want to do without your input.

We live in a society that expects "tolerance".  Are there things people should be tolerant of or patient with?  Sure.  Are there things that people should have no tolerance for?  Absolutely.

If God made a judgement against a lifestyle that someone chooses then when I follow God's judgement am I judging?  The question should not be what man should be tolerant of; rather, what is God not tolerant of.  If people are humble before God the choice is simple.
