Tired and Depressed?

"But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree.  And he asked that he might die, saying, 'It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.'  And he lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, 'Arise and eat.'  And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again.  And the angel of the LORD came again a second time and touched him and said, 'Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you'" (1 Kings 19:4-7).

It's time to get some good food and proper sleep when you're tired and depressed.  It's all about seeing clearly whatever life situation you are in.  Food and rest help a person reenergize their body and reorganize their mind.

We live in a society that is constantly on the go.  We live in a world with a lot of stressors.  Please take the opportunity to relax and refress yourself so you can continue to face life's evil headon.

Contend For The Faith

How important is it to keep the faith as was passed down by the apostles?

"Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.  For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ" (Jude 1:3-4).

Today, as in the first century, the teachings of the apostles of Christ have been perverted in many ways.  The apostle John has to fight against those who would bring false doctrines about Christ into the body and he encourages all Christians to do the same.  Therefore, it is important to know what the true teachings of Christ is and stick with it.   Your reward in heaven will be great.

Children Are Precious Gifts From God

'Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.  Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth.  Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!  He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate" (Psalm 127:3-5).

It's 11:00 pm and my little boy is sitting on my lap.  He is a handsmoe little guy who is full of energy, inquisitiveness, and bull-dogged attitude.

Wow!  Is it important to be a good dad to him and my other kids?  You bet.  In fact, God has given me a responsibility to fullfil.  As I understand my responsibility more and more I realize that he is my boy on loan from God.  One day God will ask me about my role as a dad for his children.

Parents need to be good gifts for the children that the Lord gives them.  The are precious people and moldable.  They are souls.  Pray daily for the Lord to lead you in such a way that your children will look to God for all things good.

"And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James.  All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers" (Acts 1:13-14).

Little Children Come To Me

"Then children were brought to him that he may lay hands on them and pray.  The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven'" (Matthew 19:13-14).

Children are precious to God.  There was a time in history when God destroyed mankind through a great flood.  I wonder how those people treated little children.

The Tax Man Cometh

"He [Jesus] entered Jericho and was passing through.  And there was a man named Zacchaeus.  He was a chief tax collector and was rich" (Luke 19:1-2).

The government, during the time of Jesus, was very oppressive to many of its peoples.  It believed in taxation without representation.  It was common practice for Rome to use people of one particular ethnic group to be tax collectors to people with similar ethnic backgrounds.  The Jewish people were no-less different.

Zacchaeus was one such tax collector.  He was a Jewish tax collector to the Jewish people for the oppressive Roman government (cf. Luke 19:9).  Therefore, Zacchaeus, and other such tax collectors, were considered traitors and sinners among the common people (cf. Luke 19:7).  They were considered part of the government oppression rather than "those" who did a responsible job.

The tax collector was commonly known to be corrupt.  They were usually known to tax beyond what was required which they would use to "line-their-own-pockets" (cf. Luke 3:8).  However, Zacchaus was a man searching for something beyond treachery, oppression, and government kickbacks.  He wanted hope, help, and Jesus.

Zacchaes wanted to show fruits of his repentance by offering to pay back those whom he defrauded (Luke 19:8 cf. Matthew 3:7-9).  He sought to change his life and Jesus recognized his true heart.  "And Jesus said to him, 'Today salvation has come to his house, since he also is a son of Abraham.  For the son of man came to seek and save the lost'" (Luke 19:9-10).

There are people in this world who defraud, lie, cheat, and steal.  They will be judged accordingly.  However, it is these people that Jesus also came to save.  Are you the Lord's tool?

"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth" (John 1:14).

Jesus is the "Word" that needs to be heard.  Let's get the "Word" out!

The Eyes Of The Lord

"But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD" (Genesis 6:8).

Humans, sometimes, are the "craziest" people.  We tend to lie, cheat, and hide the wrongs we do.  We become scared that we will be "found out" for our dumb descisions.  Why?  Doesn't everyone sin?  Is there anyone who does not make a mistake?  Who out there has not made a "heavy handed" sin against God or man?

We think that we can hide our indiscresions from our spouse.  Some believe they can sneak monies away from the IRS.  Perhaps, you have harbored anger against someone.

The people who lived during the lifetime of Noah, at the time of the world-wide flood, were corrupt and violent (Genesis 6:11, 13).  They were also wicked and evil continually as a lifestyle (Genesis 6:5).  This attitude of theirs is what they have allowed themselves to be as a people.  This is not what God intended for the creation of mankind.  He does not desire perversion of His creation.  In fact, mankind grieved God to His heart (Genesis 6:6).

Fortunately, God saw something positive in Noah.  What a complement to Noah.  Noah sought to live righteously before God in the face of a negative and evil world (Hebrews 11:7; 2 Peter 2:5).

In todays world; especially, the United States of America, there is evil and wickedness abounding.  People in this world are violent, destructive, and immoral.  Can you imagine how much more worse the prevelency of evil was during Noah's time for God to only see one person who had favor in His eyes?

How does God see you?  Do you have favor in God's eyes?  Be humble before the Lord and continually fight against the evil that corrupts mankind.

Creation Of A Pure Soul

"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me" (Psalm 51:10).

King David was a man who made many, many mistakes in his life.  He sinned greatly before God - even commiting adultery and murder.  Yet, throughout his life he always turned toward God with genuine repentance.  It was not a repentance of "sorry I got caught/regret"; like, Judas Iscariot (cf. Matthew 27:3).  King David's repentance was a repentance of "I hurt You God and I am beside myself with deep, sorrowful grief".  David sought for purification.  He knew he could not clean himself - he needed God.  Interestingly, the Hebrew word for create is the same as in the beginning when God "created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1).  You see, only God can create the universe.  In the same way, only God can create a clean heart.  David sought a "miracle" from the only being who could give it - God

David was humble before the Lord.  He sought a creation of a clean heart.  He sought a pure soul.

God does this "miracle" for all people who are His.  He creates in them a "clean heart".  If anyone seeks a miracle, it should be this one.
