"In the Lord I take refuge.  How then can you say to me:  'Flee like a bird to your mountain.  For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.  When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?'"

"The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on is heavenly throne.  He observes the sons of men; his eyes examine them.  The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates.  On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot."

"For the Lord is rightous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face"
(Psalm 11).

Worship 04/25/2010

Give ear to my words, O LORD; consider my groaning.  Give attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you do I pray.  O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.  For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you.  The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers.  You destroy those who speak lies; the LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.  But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house.  I will bow down toward your holy temple in the fear of you.  Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.  For there is no truth in their mouth; their inmost self is destruction; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue.  Make them bear their guilt, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out, for they have rebelled against you.  But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.  For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield" (Psalm 5).

"Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness.  Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.  And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell.  But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD" (Joshua 24:14-15).

Heaven and Earth 04/01/2010

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my [Jesus] words will not pass away" (Matthew 24:35).

Aside from the context of the passage, Jesus affirms a reality that all people should recognize - He is someone to listen to.  There is a "forever aspect" to the spoken truth that is given by Jesus.  The fact is - truth is truth is truth.  It is meant to last.  Jesus words are meant to last.  Yet, the corporeal nature of the physical will deminish and depart.

Don't worship the things of this earth.  Worship the One who can give you eternal life.

"And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James.  All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers" (Acts 1:13-14).

"Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire" (Hebrews 12:28-29).

Worship 03/14/2010

"Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!  Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!  For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.  In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.  The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.  Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!  For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness, when your fathers put me to the test and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.  For forty years I loathed that generation and said, 'They are a people who go astray in their heart, and they have not known my ways.'  Therefore I swore in my wrath, 'They shall not enter my rest'" (Psalm 95).

"Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, 'You must not do that!  I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.'  For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" (Revelation 19:10).

Whom we give credit for our "worth-ship" is not us but God.  Give Him all allegience and glory.

"Where is he who has been born king of the Jews?  For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him" (Matthew 2:2).

Don't forget who you've come to worship and serve.
