Tolerance 08/22/2010
"There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear, but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked" (Isaiah 11:1-4). I like it when people argue, "Doesn't the Bible say not to judge?" Of course what they usually mean is - let me do what I want to do without your input. We live in a society that expects "tolerance". Are there things people should be tolerant of or patient with? Sure. Are there things that people should have no tolerance for? Absolutely. If God made a judgement against a lifestyle that someone chooses then when I follow God's judgement am I judging? The question should not be what man should be tolerant of; rather, what is God not tolerant of. If people are humble before God the choice is simple. The Lord's humbled . . . John A.
